The Diary of Jane Glenn

Edited by Derrick Wood; Published by Richard Kay Publications

Transcribed exactly, this day by day diary (1917) for one year of a Ruskington farmer’s daughter on the edge of the Lincolnshire fens during ‘The Great War’ gives a most graphic picture of rural life not quite so divorced from the war as might be thought with airships and Zeppelins overflying the farm and bombs dropped nearby. There is a brief assessment of the wartime state of farming and a list of some 1917 household shopping prices included in the back of her diary.
