Tennyson, born at Somersby, Lincolnshire, in 1809, was the first Poet Laureate to be recorded performing his own work. With this in mind, the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology is celebrating his bicentenary by re-issuing recordings of his Lincolnshire dialect poems on CD. They were first issued in 1969 on three LPs produced by the Lincolnshire Association in collaboration with the Tennyson Society. They include Northern Farmer, The Northern Cobbler, Owd Roa (Old Rover), The Spinster's Sweet-Arts (sweethearts).
This compilation is dedicated to the memory of Flora Murray, OBE, 1913-2009, who contributed much to both the Tennyson Society and the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology.
