Essays based on lectures about the lives and works of Lincolnshire historians including: Edward Trollope - a great reporter to the Reports and Papers of the Louth Society; A R Maddison – published in 1878 a history of Vicars Choral from their origins in the 12th century up to the reformation; T Longley – firstly a parish priest but a local historian and Domesday scholar; W O Massingberd – publisher of medieval manor court rolls for the county along with manorial surveys; R W Goulding – his research for the Louth Old Corporation Records; C W Foster remembered for diocesan records, the Record Society and capitular records as the most important pieces of work he was involved with; Sir F Stenton – known for his contribution to the English Place Name Society; Sir F Hill - worked in Lincoln, in law, with the firm Andrew, Race and Midgley (now Andrew and Co); E Peacock – dialectologist, A Stark – local correspondent for the Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury.
