Remigius, who was appointed to the bishopric of Dorchester-on-Thames in 1067, is important above all else as the bishop who transferred the site of his diocese's cathedral church to Lincoln, where it has remained ever since.
A Norman – indeed the first Norman to receive a bishopric in England after 1066. He appeared with some regularity at the Royal Court where he manifestly held his own in the complex political life which followed the Normal conquest. He built extensively at Lincoln and was responsible for a great deal of the reorganisation within his diocese.
