A collection of stunning photographs showing the enormous diversity to be found across Guernsey's 25 square miles, feudal Sark that is even smaller and Herm, Brecqhou, Jethou and Lihou that are just dots on the map! The scenery varies from the cobbled streets of St Peter Port and commercial activity of St Sampson's to the soaring cliffs of the south coast and the sandy dunes in the north. The centre of the Island is a maze of country lanes and each of the smaller islands (where no motor vehicles are permitted) has its own unique character. Much of Guernsey has remained unchanged for centuries. Great effort is now made to limit man's impact on the environment while preserving the evidence of our ancestors which date back to prehistoric times.
The Island is dotted with fortifications ranging in date from the 13th century when King John ordered Castle Cornet to be built, to much more recently when occupying forces built huge tunnels, bunkers and other structures during World War Two.
