Anglo-Saxon Lincolnshire

P Sawyer The Society of Lincolnshire History and Archaeology

This book present an interpretation of Lincolnshire’s history from the collapse of Roman power in the fourth and fifth centuries to the Norman conquest in the eleventh.  Apart from the Domesday Book, very few contemporary texts say much about this part of England but fortunately a great deal can be gleaned from the study of coins, place and personal names, archaeological evidence, the remains of Anglo-Saxon churches and stone monuments of the period.

Many technical details and points of controversy are dealt with in appendices, which include complete lists of pagan Anglo-Saxon burials and of coins of the period found in Lincolnshire before 1994.
