This is the story of the early life of Raymond B Moss and his rather colourful time in the Royal Navy. It is written by his son, Richard, and is a weave of fact and fiction; a story to remember about men who should never be forgotten. When the tale begins Ray Moss is 18 years old and a member of the Royal Navy. He is on his way to fight in WW2s longest battle aboard HMS Ness, protecting the convoys and fighting the packs of U-boats in the epic Battle of the Atlantic. Then, with Hitler defeated, his ship sails to the exotic East Indies to take artillery, guns and ammunition off the occupying Japanese army.
Ray's story is based on real people, creatively coloured with remembered and fictional characters; the events all happened and this book brings a fresh view on what a group of young, working class Englishmen got up to while sailing one of King George VI's frigates around the world in the latter years of the war.
It is about fear, fun and young men discovering their way in the World; the book includes actual photography and sketches as well as Raymond's robust opinions of his enemies of the time.
