A Gravedigger's Tales

Ian Shipley Grosvenor House Publishing

A fascinating look into the life of a village gravedigger and the trial and tribulations that frequently beset this intriguing but little known about profession.

In this, the author’s second, book he recalls digging out a wrong grave and working in a somewhat spooky churchyard.  He tells of a Halloween prank that terrified a colleague and embarrassing cock-ups and a floating coffin.

The reader will be captured by the author’s dry humour and detached perspective.  His sense of history and respect for his work.

About the author

Ian lives with his wife Alison and Wag the dog in Swinderby, Lincolnshire.  He has been traditionally hand-digging graves for 28 years and has notched up over 3,384 digs.  Nowadays he can be found habitually toiling away in one of any number of locations across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
